Seven Hills, originally part of Independence Township, incorporated as a village in 1927 and as a City in 1961. We are located in central Cuyahoga County, approximately 10 miles south of downtown Cleveland, bordered by Brooklyn Heights on the north, Independence on the east, Broadview Heights on the south, and Parma on the west. The City is one half mile from the major intersection of Interstate 77 and Interstate 480.
The hilly terrain probably gave rise to the name, but early residents may also have referred to the 7 hills of Rome. Seven Hills streets are lined with residential developments, featuring spacious well-groomed lawns, brick ranches, split levels, and colonial style homes.

Seven Hills, Parma, and Parma Heights make up the Parma City School District, with several schools in Seven Hills. In addition, there is significant presence of professional businesses located in the northern quadrant of Seven Hills on the Rockside Road area.

Seven Hill’s history goes back quite far – even back to prehistoric times. Scientists have determined that in the area around Rockside and Broadview Roads extending down to the Cuyahoga Valley, dinosaur and prehistoric animals once roamed. Fossilized remains have been found and there is evidence that glaciers extended down as far as this area.

In 1662, King Charles II of England, in the Charter of 1662, made a subsidy of land to the colony of Connecticut. The United States Congress recognized this Charter after the Revolutionary War. The Connecticut Land Company was organized and received a document from the state of Connecticut in 1795. This tract of land was eventually broken up into townships. Independence Township, of which Seven Hills was originally a part, was one of these townships. Ultimately, Independence Township was broken up in different ways. This margin maintained itself as a township until 1927, when it became incorporated as Seven Hills Village. The township then no longer existed.

Two stories exist as to how Seven Hills was chosen as the name of the new Village. One story is that the area was named after the seven hills of Rome. The other story is that the area was named after the seven hills in the village.

The hills were found at

  1. Pleasant Valley Road just east of Broadview Road
  2. Hillside Road by the City Hall
  3. Chestnut Road
  4. Crossview Road South of Rockside Road
  5. Kuenzer Hills on Rockside Road
  6. Weiser Hills on Rockside Road (now excavated)
  7. Darrow Road on Rockside Road (also excavated).
